About Us

New Voices for Youth is all about giving students a voice through broadcast media to encourage their civic engagement. The opportunity to learn the ins and outs of movie making draws students to the program and League and community mentors help them from there.

Students work in teams and mentors help them learn how to:

  • identify an issue
  • research its roots
  • identify reliable sources for facts and figures
  • create a television show to tell the story, and
  • identify the key people / entities that can help others   understand the issue and/or make a difference for change

Through their particpation in the New Voices for Youth Program, students develop a number of skills , such as:

  • public speaking
  • interviewing
  • grassroots, activism
  • team-building
  • research and writing and
  • television production
