Violence in East Palo Alto
This idea comes from a group of 4 students in the M-A Academy video class. They chose this topic because there had been 19 shootings in East Palo Alto in the first 26 days of 2007. Three of the students live in East Palo Alto and have heard stories of how their city was known as the murder capital of the country back in 1992.
Through their show, these students want the community-at-large to understand what is happening in East Palo Alto and why and what the citizens of East Palo Alto, as well as those in surrounding communities, can do to help stop the violence.

Redevelopment in East Palo Alto
This is another M.A. H.S. Academy Class video project. All four students live in East Palo Alto and believed that redevelopment of an area had a significant impact on the crime in that particular area. They cited the redevelopment mixed-use housing project that occurred in the Gardens, the area of EPA that is behind IKEA and Gateway 101 and compared that area to the Mid section of East Palo Alto where there are no sidewalks, no parks and few working street lights.
To get their message across, these students decided to take field footage of the various communities of East Palo Alto to show the comparisons. Then, with the help of their League mentor, they were able to secure an interview with Raquel Medina, Redevelopment Project Coordinator with East Palo Alto's Redevelopment Agency. |
